Gate valves

Threaded Gate valve

Gate valve is a valve that is comprise of a sealing surface , a round disc and a rectangular gate or wedge out of liquids or fluids.Gate valve is also called a sluice valve . They are more desirous to use when a straight transfer of fluid and a minimum blocked is required.
They are used not always to be opened and closed regularly but for the purpose of allowing a full flow of fluid and closing them when necessary. Some gate valves are specifically designed to regulate flow and such valves are made to have the ability of cutting through liquids.

Gate valves are used in petroleum industries. Especially for the loading and transfer of thick fluids like bitumen from pipes and hoses.

Characteristics of a Gate Valve

a). A rising stem gate valve:
has the stem attached to the gate of the valve. As the valve is operated the gate and the stem rise and lower together.
b). Non rising stem gate valve:
has a pointer threaded on the upper end of the stem. They are used where vertical space is not required.
C). Gate valve bonnets:
can be a screw-in(the simplest and with a tight seal), bolted(for large and high pressure valves) or union bonnets(for strength, inspection and cleaning) and pressure seal bonnets used for a very high pressure service. They help as a leak proof closure for the body of the valve.

Gate valves are formed in three basic ways:

flanged, threaded and the socket weld.
They are also made or constructed from cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steels, forged steel, gun metal and cast carbon steel.
